Snowdrop Class

Welcome to Snowdrop Class!

Snowdrop Class are taught by Miss Brown in the mornings and Mr Shipway in the afternoons. 

We are now in the summer term! This term we continue with our Drawing Club journey, where we will explore more traditional tales, fiction and non-fiction books and animations. We will continue using colourful semantics to support us in sentence composition. In maths, we will be focusing on composition of numbers 5-9 and number bonds to 10 using a range of resources and manipulatives. 

In the afternoons, we continue with our learning in the foundation subjects. In history, the children will be exploring the evolution of flight by learning about the Wright Brothers and Ameila Earhart. In science, the children will learn about plants and will take their learning outside. 

The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) is the framework used in nurseries, preschools, and reception classes in England for children from birth to age 5. It sets the standards for learning, development, and care to ensure children are given the best start in life. The EYFS is built around seven areas of learning and development. These are divided into three prime areas and four specific areas:

The Prime Areas (the building blocks for learning)

These develop first and are the most essential for children’s healthy development and future learning.

• Physical Development

• Personal, Social and Emotional Development (PSED)

The Specific Areas (which build on the prime areas)

As children grow, these areas help them extend their learning.

• Understanding the World

Drawing Club

RE – Exploring Judaism and Special Celebrations

Over the last few weeks in RE, we have been exploring Judaism and learning about special events and festivals such as Rosh Hashanah, Sukkot, and Bar and Bat Mitzvah. The children showed great curiosity and enjoyed learning about these important celebrations.

They then got imaginative and creative by building their own Sukkah, thinking carefully about its purpose and design. We also really enjoyed making our own shofars, which are linked to the Rosh Hashanah festival. The children had a fantastic time while deepening their understanding of these traditions.

Snowdrop Class – Art

In Snowdrop Class, we have been learning about Claes Oldenburg, a famous 3D sculptor. Inspired by his work, we used playdough and paper to create our own sculptures, just like his. The children showed great creativity and enjoyed bringing their ideas to life. In a previous lesson, we also drew our favourite sculptures that he created, looking closely at the shapes and details in his work.

Easter Bonnet!

Snowdrop Class have really enjoyed learning about Easter. The children learned about Palm Sunday, Good Friday and Easter Sunday. We created palm leaves to represent the story of Palm Sunday and enjoyed eating yummy hot cross buns, where we talked about their shape and why there is a cross on them. The children also found out what happens on Easter Sunday and why it is such an important day.

Fossil Expert Visit

On Wednesday 11th March, Snowdrop Class were visited by fossil expert, Simon Carpenter. Simon shared with us his knowledge and passion of fossil hunting! The children had the opportunity to handle a fossilised dinosaur skull, a dinosaur bone and the class favourite - fossilised dinosaur poo! The class showed excellent listening and asked wonderful questions!
